Story under the virus, No.1 Mom & Mahjong
We heard a lot news about corona virus in China, I don’t want repeat those, just share some stories of common people, show what impact the virus had to our daily life. Here is first one:
Mom & majiang
Mom is nearly 70 years old though she never thought she is. ever since her retirement about 15 years ago , playing majiang after lunch with neighbors became her daily routine. Doesn’t matter if it’s raining or snowing. This enjoyment dispelled all her complains about cooking lunch every day. as long as everyone can finish it around 11am so she can dress up and go to the chess & card room early and pick the best partner for the whole afternoon. So don’t get surprised when you hear my mom screaming : lunch is ready !!! And the watch is saying 10am.
I don’t think mom realized that the coronavirus will has such a big impact to her little hobbit. It’s just play , not big things , said my mom when she saw the government ban about mahjong on tv. Anyway, government is always far from us, there is many new laws and regulations, they come and go all the time, life is still same. After a little hesitation, the temptation of mahjong won. Mom still went despite the objections of whole family.
Every day when she come back , she told us there is less people there, aunt blabla is not there ,uncle blabla is not there , it took them longer time to find 4 people, blabla…., we were try different ways to convince her that it’s supper dangerous to play mahjong during this epidemic period. None of them worked until a funny news came up on my phone.
One chess & card room was check by police , 4 people were taken to police office. They were require to write a letter of confession. After that, one by one they were asked to read it out loudly in front of camera, soon , they become famous on internet. Compare with some others they are still lucky. Some people had to lift the mahjong table , paraded along street with a sign “I should not play mahjong”, under the protection of police. Sometime we feel that we’ve back to 1960’s , the culture revolution is coming back.
It’s definitely too much ! But one good thing about that is : it really works! my fearless mom was scared. Next day, we had a nice lunch at normal time -12am, she didn’t go after lunch. For the first time of last few years, she show me her lovely smile because she want me to download a mahjong app on her phone. Now we start to worry about her eyesight. That caused a fight between her and my dad. Well, as you can image , it’s going to be another long story , allow me to tell you on next blog, see you….
